With its five terminals and two runways, this bustling airport serves the Mumbai area. It handles nearly 800 aeroplanes every day and caters to more than 30 million passengers a year.
The airport is named after the 17th-century Maratha emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji, and its IATA airport code – BOM – comes from Mumbai’s former name, Bombay.
The airport is an amalgamation of two airports, with Santacruz now Terminal 1 catering for domestic flights and Sahar Airport now Terminal 2 for international flights.
